Jillian and Erik recently returned from Saudi Arabia where the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) hosted the 2016 Conference: Emerging Concepts and Materials in Solar Energy Conversion from October 31st – November 2nd. The conference was a great space for sharing novel ideas and recent discoveries in the field, bringing together top researchers from different disciplines including chemistry, physics and materials science.

We had a big representation of Buriak Group members travel to Beijing, China for the ACS Symposium: Innovation in Molecular Science. Along with talks and posters from past and current group members, Jillian was one of the conference coordinators. But, as you can see from the photo – it wasn’t just all work and no play!

Jillian recently returned from an excellent trip to Korea where she visited KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology). This beautiful campus hosted the International Workshop on Emerging Functional Materials, where Jillian was invited to give a talk on her current work. Later this year she’ll be headed to other international locations including China, Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands!

Congratulations to Binbin, Minjia and Cong for completing the race in Banff last weekend. Looks like the weather was perfect for a run!

We all learned a few cooking tips and tricks at our New Year’s Party! Thanks to Cong and his helpers for bringing all the supplies. YUM!

Congratulations to Fenglin Liu for winning a Best Poster Award this year! Fenglin, Jillian, Bing and Cong just returned from Beijing where they participated in ChinaNANO 2015, the 6th International Conference on Nanoscience and Technology. Between posters, presentations and plenaries the highlight was… you guessed it, FOOD! Here are some photos for those who missed out. 🙂

The 2015 Turkey Trot is just around the corner and Team Buriak is training hard! Come out on Saturday, October 3rd and run, walk, wheel or crawl your way through the 4 km or 8 km course.
